Methodologic Limitations of Prescription Opioid Safety Research: A Case of Integrated Data Systems and Modern Epidemiology Jun 04, 2018 from 12:00 PM to 01:00 PM Brinkhous-Bullitt 219,
In a review of 27 opioid safety studies cited in the CDC’s opioid prescribing guidelines for chronic non-cancer pain, the majority of the studies had limitations pertaining to internal and external validity. The CDC also acknowledges that the opioid safety evidence base is weak (grade 3 and 4). This presentation will highlight these limitations in the literature, their impact on the guidelines, and how integrated data systems and advanced analytic methods may help us navigate some of these issues.

Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is an aggressive hematologic malignancy that affects approximately 20,000 patients each year in the United States. Management of AML has changed little over the last several decades and outcomes remain unsatisfactory. However, recent drug discoveries and approvals show tremendous promise. This presentation will review the current treatment armamentarium of AML highlighting novel concepts and investigational agents in development. Medical and Surgical Oncology lectures offer CNE, ASRT, and CME continuing education credit (upon approval) for eligible participants. We invite anyone interested to view our lectures.
