Chirag Sureshchandra Desai, MD – Associate Professor of Surgery at the Department of Surgery, University of North Carolina. Dr. Desai completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Mumbai, India in 1996 and received a Master of Surgery (American Board of Surgery Equivalent) in 2000.  He completed his Surgical Residency at Seth G.S. Medical College, K.E.M. Hospital, India in 2002 and was a Lecturer at Seth G.S. Medical College, K.E.M. Hospital from 2003-2006. Dr. Desai moved to the US and completed an American Society of Transplant Surgery Multi-Organ Fellowship at Georgetown University Hospital (2007-2010) where he became certified in liver, intestine and kidney transplants and served as Assistant Professor of Surgery (2012-2015), Associate Professor (2015-2016) and Founding Director of the Chronic Pancreatitis and Autologous Islet Transplant Program.  His expertise includes adult and pediatrics liver transplantation, intestinal transplantation and autologous islet cell transplantation.
