CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- This week’s broadcast of UNC Family Medicine’s YOUR HEALTH radio show marks the beginning of a new series entitled "Remarkable Stories on Health and Healing.” The first guest in the Health and Healing series is Kelly Bruno, a second year medical student at UNC. Health and Healing will debut this Saturday, Jan. 22 at 9 a.m. on WCHL 1360AM.
The Health and Healing series will feature remarkable stories of courage, survivorship and healing by patients and physicians.
"We are really excited to start the Health and Healing series with a segment on a world class athlete and a world class healer", said Dr. Adam Goldstein, professor of family medicine at UNC and co-host of YOUR HEALTH Radio. Bruno is a world-record holding runner and athlete despite having her right leg amputated at the age of six months due to a birth defect. She has completed three Ironman triathlon competitions and became the second and fastest female amputee to finish the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii in 2007. Recently, Bruno appeared as contestant “Kelly B.” on the CBS reality TV show Survivor: Nicaragua.
"Kelly's story is remarkable for its inspiring message" said Dr. Cristy Page, UNC family physician and YOUR HEALTH co-host. In the radio interview, recorded close to the recent one-year anniversary of the Haitian earthquake, Bruno also discusses the inspiration she received from her father, Dr. Richard Bruno, a family physician who was killed in the Haitian earthquake while leading a medical charity mission last year.
YOUR HEALTH, hosted by UNC Family Medicine, airs every Saturday at 9 a.m. on WCHL 1360 AM, with encore shows on Sunday at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and Monday at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. For more information or to listen to podcasts of shows, please visit YOURHEALTHRADIO.ORG.
