Diane Owens is a Risk Management Specialist at UNC Health Care. Team River Runner is a non-profit, volunteer organization that teaches wounded military veterans and their families to kayak. Many wounded veterans welcome a chance to pick up a new challenge, and get out of the daily routine of their treatment for a day. They are attracted to whitewater and adventure kayaking because it offers an exciting way to improve their health, strength, and connection with nature.

About the Employee Ambassador Program
UNC Health Care's Employee Ambassador Program  is designed to recognize UNC Health Care employees for giving back to their communities. As part of the program, each Employee Ambassador volunteering 50 hours or more with a qualifying charity will earn a donation of $250 for that charity. In 2011, the program’s more than 240 Ambassadors volunteered 6,464 hours with dozens of local charities.
