We're very excited to launch the first video of a brand new series called RN: Real Nurses.  We've taken the idea behind real doctors, real people and expanded on it to include the fascinating lives of those who tirelessly serve day in and day out.  We'll explore not only hobbies and extracurricular pursuits, but also the passions and causes and everything in between-things that keep our UNC nurses busy, when they're not busy at a bedside or in the operating room.

This month, our featured nurse is Ellen Ciompi (think like an Italian and pronounce her last name with a "ch"), a cabaret artist.  For the audience, a cabaret is entertainment, art, storytelling and a great time with food, drink and friends. For Ellen Ciompi, the performer, it's about finding a connection with the stories, and it’s about conveying the raw emotion in a song to those in the audience. It's acting, stand-up comedy and singing all wrapped up in one amazing performance. Not everyone can do all of those things on a stage with bright lights and a ruthless audience before them, but Ciompi pulls it off with style and a certain flair. In fact, she loves singing so much you shouldn't be surprised to hear about an impromptu performance in the operating room.

Ciompi performs locally, so you don't have to travel to New York City to experience authentic cabaret right here in the Triangle. Ciompi's next show is February 11 at the Regulator Bookshop in Durham.  Check her website for more info on Ciompi and her performances.

Enjoy this month's RN: Real Nurses and come back next month for another exciting RN feature!
