Voting begins today in the Social Madness Challenge, a national contest in which companies will be ranked based on a scoring algorithm that measures social influence. The algorithm will gauge votes on bizjournals.com, LinkedIn Connections, Facebook activity and Twitter followers during the challenge.

In essence, the contest measures the social media growth that companies achieve during the contest period.

The Open Phase of Social Madness started at 12:01 AM ET today (June 1, 2012) and runs through 11:59 PM ET June 18, 2012. During the two weeks of the Open Phase, an unlimited number of eligible companies will participate in their designated market. At the end of the Open Phase, the 8 companies with the most points move to the next phase, the Local Bracket Phase. (Kind of like the NCAA basketball brackets, don't you think?)

In our designated market, the contest is being hosted by the Triangle Business Journal, and UNC Health Care is a contestant in the large companies category (500+ employees).

So, how can you vote for us? First, go to the voting page on the Triangle Business Journal's website. Then click on the link for "Large companies" and click on the vote button for UNC Health Care.

Finally, click on the links to our Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn sites, and follow us on all three.

We need your help to advance to the Local Bracket Phase, so please vote for us now!
