Nash Health Care entered a new era in its mission to provide superior quality health care for area citizens today as its affiliation agreement with UNC Health Care took effect.
The management services agreement allows Nash Health Care to acquire managerial and operational resources from UNC Health Care. While this agreement does not involve any sale or exchange of assets, officials believe it will help Nash Health Care achieve significant cost savings and increase hospital-based clinical services for area patients. Nash Health Care also retains all local governance of its health care system.
Larry Chewning, president and CEO of Nash Health Care, said this agreement would help community systems like Nash weather the tumultuous health care transformations that are occurring and assist in meeting the additional challenges that are looming on the horizon as the result of the Affordable Care Act.
“We have been looking forward to this moment with much anticipation. It signifies Nash Health Care’s dedication to provide the best in health care for our community. The affiliation with UNC Health Care allows us to be better prepared to meet the challenges of the future. This affiliation will strengthen our position as a regional medical center provider,” Chewing said. “UNC Health Care has a continually demonstrated its commitment to working with rural communities throughout our state, and our affiliation will lead us to an even higher quality of care and improved health care access for area citizens. We are proud to be able to join their tradition of excellence.”
David Strong, chief operating officer of system affiliations for UNC Health Care, said, “We are pleased to finalize our affiliation with Nash Health Care and welcome them into our health care system. Nash Health Care will help advance our system's mission of providing excellent care, training the next generation of North Carolina’s physicians, and conducting groundbreaking research.”
“The affiliation marks the fruition of an extensive study by the Nash Health Care Board of Commissioners during a search for an affiliation that began in June 2013. After careful consideration, UNC Health Care’s dedication to excellence and impressive track record of clinical excellence made them an ideal choice,” said Vincent C. Andracchio II, chairman of the Nash Health Care Systems Board of Commissioners.
To mark the new affiliation, Nash Health Care unveiled new signage featuring the new Nash/UNC Heath Care logo, and employees and physicians commemorated the day with an informal celebration in the hospital cafeteria.
The expanded affiliation agreement will allow Nash Health Care to provide a broader scope of resources to benefit patients in its four-county service area. Some of the primary benefits include:
- Expansion of locally-available patient care services
- Measured improvements in patient care quality outcome indicators
- Enhancements to patient satisfaction and patient experience
- Lowering the cost of operations
- Improving the revenue and collections cycle to strengthen financial performance
- Recruitment of additional highly-trained and skilled physicians
- Access to cutting-edge research and treatments at UNC Health Care
