Temporary visitor restrictions begin Monday, December 22

Due to an increase in confirmed cases of flu this month, children less than 12 years of age will be not be allowed to visit any inpatient units at UNC Hospitals, beginning on Monday, December 22.

Both North Carolina and UNC Hospitals have reported an increase in cases of confirmed influenza since December 1, 2014.

As a result, the following visitor restrictions are now in effect at UNC Hospitals:

  • All visitors with respiratory symptoms (such as coughing, sneezing or a runny nose) are prohibited from visiting patients.
  • Currently children less than 12 years of age are not allowed to visit in the Pediatric ICU or Neonatal Critical Care Unit.
  • Beginning on Monday, December 22, children less than 12 years of age will be prohibited from visiting any inpatient unit at UNC Hospitals. (These restrictions are temporary and will be reviewed when the number of new influenza cases declines.)

In the meantime, we ask visitors with fever, cough or other flu-like symptoms to stay at home.

Thank you for helping to keep our patients safe!
