Congratulations to the UNC Hospitals Police and Transportation Department!
The department has received the Lindberg Bell Award for Excellence given by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety Foundation. This prestigious award, which is given to only one hospital in the world each year, was presented at the 2016 IAHSS 48th Annual Conference & Exhibition in Charlotte, North Carolina, in May.
“I compare our receipt of this prestigious designation with that of a health care organization receiving Magnet status," said Lisa Terry, CHPA, CPP, Director of Hospitals Police and Transportation. "Our staff truly personify the qualities associated with the Lindberg Bell Award for Excellence to include living the department vision every day: ‘We are dedicated to providing a safe environment so others may heal. We will accomplish this feat with a caring hand, a brave heart and a willing attitude.’"
To select the award recipient, the IAHSS Lindberg Bell Award for Excellence Nomination Review Committee considers criteria such as the introduction of, or changes to, programs in the areas of crime prevention, risk management, security and/or safety services, staff education and/or training, innovation, and application of contemporary/ state-of-the-art technology in the areas of personnel identification, access control, intrusion alarm, incident response, and integrated electronic reporting systems. The Nomination Review Committee also evaluates, among other variables, aspects of the program which significantly contribute to a comprehensive, progressive, balanced, results-oriented, cost-effective program.
