UNC Health Care CEO William L. Roper, MD, MPH, and Steve Burriss, President of UNC REX Healthcare, are included in “183 Nonprofit Hospital and Health System CEOs to Know 2017,” which is published by Becker’s Hospital Review and features some of the most impressive presidents and CEOs in health care’s nonprofit sector.

Here is what Becker's had to say about Dr. Roper:

William Roper, MD. CEO of UNC Health Care (Chapel Hill, N.C.)Dr. Roper joined UNC in 1997 as dean of the School of Public Health at UNC and was promoted to dean of the School of Medicine and vice chancellor for Medical Affairs at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as well as CEO of UNC Health Care System. He is currently presiding over UNC Health Care's efforts to combine with Carolinas HealthCare System, which would create one of the largest care delivery networks in the U.S. Both organizations signed a letter of intent in September to extend treatment beyond what either system could do individually. Before joining UNC, Dr. Roper held multiple leadership roles at Prudential Health Care in Newark, N.J., and was director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He also spent time serving on the senior White House staff and was administrator of the Health Care Financing Administration. Dr. Roper is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and member of the board of directors of DaVita and Express Scripts Holding Company.

And here is what Becker's said about Steve Burriss:

Stephen Burriss. President of UNC REX Healthcare (Raleigh, N.C.). In April 2015, Mr. Burriss became president of UNC REX Healthcare, a 660-bed hospital belonging to University of North Carolina Health Care in Chapel Hill. Under Mr. Burriss' leadership, the number of hospital employees nearly doubled to about 6,500 staff members. Recent leadership initiatives include opening a new behavioral health zone to serve growing mental health needs, launching an outpatient radiology joint venture, and completing REX's heart and vascular expansion project. Mr. Burriss received the Goodmon Award for commitment to community from Leadership Triangle in 2017.
