Autism study gains national attention

Published last week in the journal Nature, the research shows it is possible to use MRIs to predict which high-risk babies will go on to develop autism as toddlers.

Joseph Piven, MD, and Heather Hazlett, PhD, both of the department of psychiatry, used MRIs and a computer algorithm to predict which high-risk babies would meet criteria for autism at two years of age. Their work was featured around the world last week and earlier this week. The original story about Piven and Hazlett’s Nature paper was published last Thursday.
