U.S. News places UNC among nation’s best medical schools

Several UNC School of Medicine specialties ranked near the top in the magazine’s annual rankings.

Once again, U.S. News and World Report has ranked the UNC School of Medicine amongst the nation’s best medical schools. In the publication’s latest Best Medical School rankings, published March 15, UNC SOM is ranked 2 for Primary Care and 24 for Research.

Several specialty areas also ranked highly, including:

  • Family Medicine, 6th
  • Rural Medicine, 5th
  • Geriatrics, 11th
  • Internal Medicine, 21st
  • Women's Health, 13th

Several disciplines in the Department of Allied Health Sciences also received high rankings in 2016, which was the last time these rankings were updated:

  • Audiology, tied for 4th
  • Occupational Therapy, tied for 9th
  • Speech Language Pathology, tied for 12th
  • Physical Therapy, tied for 15th
