Dr. Gwynne has served as the Interim President and Executive Medical Director for UNC Health Alliance and UNC Senior Alliance for nearly a year. During this time, he was instrumental in establishing a partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina and finalizing the Blue Value with UNC Health Alliance agreement and the Blue Premier Alternative Payment Model.

“I am extremely honored to be chosen for this position, and I am looking forward to continuing our ongoing work to provide the highest quality, affordable care to North Carolinians,” Gwynne said.

Previously, Dr. Gwynne served UNC Health Alliance as Senior Medical Director and Chairman of the Board of Managers. Dr. Gwynne is also an Associate Professor of Family Medicine at the UNC School of Medicine, where he has served on faculty for the past 15 years.

Dr. Gwynne has published significantly about care redesign and he is board-certified in Family Medicine.

“In addition to actively practicing inpatient and outpatient medicine, Dr. Gwynne has spent significant time throughout his career developing new models of population health care delivery that enhance value by improving quality while decreasing total cost of care,” explained Darren A.
