Rowell Daniels, PharmD, MS, FASHP has been selected to the permanent position of Chief Operating Officer for UNC Hospitals.

Colleagues, I am very pleased to announce that Rowell Daniels, PharmD, MS, FASHP has been selected to the permanent position of Chief Operating Officer for UNC Hospitals.

Over the past seven months, Rowell served as interim COO. During this time, he has demonstrated his knowledge of our organization, his commitment to exceptional patient care services, and his ability to lead under challenging circumstances.

As many of you know, Rowell has served in a variety of roles with UNC over the past 22 years. Most recently, Rowell has functioned as our UNC Health System Vice President of Pharmacy Services where he has focused on enhancing pharmacy services across the health system to benefit patient care. This has included work across acute and ambulatory environments as well as transitional patient care services. His early work with system services helped support the development of our UNC Shared Services Center, which has been critical to the development of a number strategic health system services. Rowell has also served as Executive Associate Dean for the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy where he continues to hold an appointment as Associate Professor of Clinical Education. During his time with pharmacy, Rowell also helped lead his services to national and international prominence through the recognition of advanced clinical services, education, and research.

Rowell received his Bachelors and Doctor of Pharmacy Degrees from the University of Georgia. He also completed a two-year specialty residency and Master’s degree program in Health System Pharmacy Administration at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics.

Rowell and I will develop a leadership transition plan for his System Pharmacy Services as he transitions into his new role.

Please join me in congratulating Rowell on this important accomplishment.
