Mentoring program with the Office of Medical Student Research

We would like to ask current mentors if they wish to continue serving as mentors for this program, and those who do not mentor if you would like to begin doing so.

The Office of Medical Student Research is beginning to arrange for the next research cycle in which medical students (those who have completed one year of medical school) apply to our program to participate in a research project during which they work closely with mentors who volunteer to serve in this capacity.

Interested students submit a research proposal.  If selected to participate in this program, they are expected to attend several educational activities, engage in a short-term research project, and present a summary of this project, for which they receive a stipend.

To those of you who mentor our students, we greatly appreciate yourdedication and contribution in this regard. Feedback from students has been uniformly excellent.  A vital part of the positive experience they share after participating in the program can be attributed to mentor involvement.  Mentors have consistently shown themselves to be committed role models for these younger students who exhibit promise.

Mentors can read about our program by visiting http://www.med.unc.edu/omsr.  Mentors submit research opportunities, which are posted to the web site (see "Find a mentor/project").

If you are a current mentor, or are interested in becoming a mentor, please contact Steve Kennedy at 919-966-2514 or at skennedy@med.unc.edu
