CTICU receives prestigious Beacon Award

The Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) recently received the Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.

This award provides a mechanism for units to measure their systems against evidence-based criteria for excellence.

The CTICU is a nine-bed intensive care unit specializing in the care of postsurgical cardiac and thoracic patients. Beacon Award units are nationally recognized for achieving high quality outcomes in six categories that impact patient care. These standards are:

  • Recruitment and retention;
  • Education, training and mentoring;
  • Research and evidence-based practice;
  • Patient outcomes;
  • Leadership and organizational ethics;
  • Healing environment.

Receiving such acclaim reflects how the CTICU provides exceptional care to patients and their families.

"This award gives well-deserved recognition to the nursing staff who consistently look for opportunities to improve the quality of care and improve our work environment," said Meghan McCann, CTICU nurse manager. "I am extremely proud and lucky to be a part of such an amazing team."
