October UNC Transportation Forums
Please join one of UNC's annual Transportation Forums. We will assemble a panel of experts to answer your commuting questions while you sit and enjoy your bag lunch or sample the refreshments we will provide. We will have printed information available as well. This is a real chance to make your voice heard. So come on out and see us.

Let's Talk Alternatives
Here's three ways to find a rideshare match:

  • Visit www.SharetheRideNC.com to find out quickly if there are already vanpool / carpool matches out there for you or to notify others of your willingness to give ridesharing a try.

If (and only if) you can give us a contact e-mail or phone number, send your particulars to us and we will send them out each month in this newsletter. Get your information in to us by the last week of the present month to make it into the next newsletter.

Contact us if you would like someone from the Department of Public Safety to come to speak to your group about commuter alternatives. We have had some great meetings in recent weeks.

Van pools, car pools and more
Permanent employees of the University or the Hospitals who join CAP receive an additional $20 per month subsidy towards vanpool fees. There is no better time to begin slashing your fuel costs and doing your bit to help the environment.

Help Find CAP Merchants
We are trying something different this year to expand our CAP merchant program. Our CAP merchants offer discounts and donate prizes for our CAP participants. In return, we thank them publicly several times throughout the year, letting folks know who and where they are.

Do you have a local restaurant or other business that you would like to see join the CAP program? If you have a favorite - contact us. We'll send you a very nice invitation to give to that merchant next time you pay them a visit. Just email your name and campus address.

Carrington Hall Bus Stop
You may have noticed that there is a shiny new bus stop on S Columbia St at Carrington Hall. The new stop is located about 50 feet south of the old one and has two new shelters.

State Fair Transit Service
Triangle Transit will offer Express bus service to the 2008 North Carolina State Fair from two locations on both Saturdays (Oct. 18 & 25) and both Sundays (Oct. 19 & 26) during the Fair.

The Express Service will run from the Eubanks Road Park-and-Ride Lot in Chapel Hill.

Commuter Alternative Program Trial Membership
Thinking about the CAP program but not sure yet? Don't forget, you can join CAP for a 30-day trial without giving up your permit. You will not be able to take advantage of the $20 vanpool subsidy, or the free annual Triangle Transit GoPass.

You will receive a Park & Ride decal, giving you access to 5 additional park & ride lots and a membership card, opening the door to discounts with several area merchants and a chance to win prizes distributed at random throughout the year. Call 962-3951 and ask to speak to someone about the trial CAP program.

Call the Department of Public Safety at 962-3951 or e-mail cap@unc.edu with questions. Thank you!
