Re: Request for Proposals - 2009 CNRC Pilot and Feasibility Grants Program

The UNC Clinical Nutrition Research Center funds 1-2 year grants at approximately $22,000/year for Pilot and Feasibility research projects in nutrition. I invite you and your colleagues to consider developing a research proposal for the CNRC.
Pilot and Feasibility (P/F) Projects may be biomedical, epidemiological or clinical. They may include laboratory or non-laboratory research projects that focus either on human nutrition or on animal work that could be translated to human nutrition. Human nutrition projects may focus on inpatient or outpatient studies or on epidemiological or community-based research that is social or behavioral in nature.
Criteria for Eligibility
- Applicant must be a faculty member at UNC-CH
- Applicant must be a junior investigator who has not previously received NIH R01 support "OR" an established investigator whose expertise and research lie outside the area of nutrition, but who has developed a new or innovative idea in a nutrition-related area.
How to Apply
If you are interested in this opportunity, please submit a "Letter of Intent" and an NIH-style Biosketch by Friday, November 14, 2008. The letter should include your hypothesis and the questions you wish to ask. It should also provide a brief overview of the nature, significance and experimental approach of the proposed research. Tell us whether the data your research will generate is pilot data or will answer your major question; what you will do with the pilot data generated; and where this research will lead.
Letters of Intent are limited to one page and should be in 11 pt Ariel font. Letters should be sent to Michelle Collins via campus mail: CB# 7461, email: email@example.com, or delivered to 2115 Michael Hooker Research Center.
Selected applicants will be asked to submit a full proposal. A CNRC Review Committee will evaluate Letters of Intent and notify you by Monday, December 15. Full proposals should be no longer than 5 pages. Full proposals will be due Monday, February 2, 2009, and funding for successful applications will begin in April.
