Brushes with Life Art Exhibit and Screening

Next week, the FedEx Global Education Center is hosting a documentary and art exhibit made by a former UNC patient about the "Brushes with Life" art program in the UNC Department of Psychiatry.

Enjoy a magnificent collection of diverse artwork including paintings, photography, poetry and ceramics from the Brushes with Life STEP Art Gallery Sept. 17 - 21.

Then, at 5:30 Sept. 18 in the Nelson Mandela Auditorium, join us for the Brushes with Life Film Screening & Discussion. The documentary film ‘Brushes with Life’ features eight artist with mental illness striving to be recognized as creative talents in a world that often stigmatizes, judges, incarcerates and abuses them. 

Discuss art, mental health & global perspectives with filmmaker Philip Brubaker; foundation founder Dr. Lucy Daniels; Chair of the UNC Department of Psychiatry, Dr. David Rubinow; and Expressive Arts Therapist Tina Siragusa. 

Moderated by film producer Deirdre Imershein Haj.  Reception and art viewing following discussion. Hosted by the Program in the Humanities & Human Values, Brushes with Life STEP Art Gallery, Ackland Art Museum and Carolina Women’s Center.
