Nancy C. Chescheir named new Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs for Special Projects

We are pleased to announce that Nancy C. Chescheir, MD has returned to UNC and will serve in the School of Medicine as Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs for Special Projects, effective March 1, 2009.

Her role will be to provide assistance to Warren Newton, Executive Associate Dean for Medical Education, and to Mike Cohen, Associate Vice Chancellor for Global Health. In addition, in this capacity, she will serve on the Dean's Advisory Committee.

In her new position here at UNC, Dr. Chescheir will also serve the University as Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine, where she will provide maternal-fetal medical care to our patients. She will also work as the Maternity Director for the Perinatal Quality Collaborative of North Carolina and as Director of Women's and Children's Services of the Bokamoso Private Hospital in Gaborone, Botswana.

Nancy came to Carolina as a freshman in college in 1973 and received all of her undergraduate, medical school, and post graduate training here.

Over her career, she has held various administrative positions at UNC, including Acting Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Associate Dean for the Curriculum, Director of Fetal Surgery and Medical

Director of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinics. She left UNC to serve as Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
