UNC Health Care receives national award for community value

Cleverley & Associates has named UNC Hospitals one of the country’s top 100 hospitals in its 2009 Community Value Index ranking. The CVI was created to “provide a measure of the value that a hospital provides to its community,” according to a company press release.

Every acute care hospital in the country was reviewed for the index, largely derived from Medicare patient data. The components include: Financial viability and plant reinvestment, hospital cost structure, hospital charge structure and hospital quality performance.

“We are honored to be named by Cleverely & Associates as one of the top hospitals in the country,” said Gary Park, president of UNC Hospitals. “The Community Value Index is highly regarded in the industry, and our inclusion illustrates the hard work and dedication our employees have to our patients, and to continually improve the excellence of UNC Hospitals.”
The award is one of several won by UNC Hospitals recently. Others are inclusion in the U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals ranking, a top award for patient satisfaction by Hospital Consumer Assessment of Health Care Providers and Systems and an above average score of patient satisfaction by Consumer Reports magazine.
