Obama nominates UNC alum Francis S. Collins to head NIH
On Wednesday July 8, Dr. Francis S. Collins, physician and geneticist and an alumnus of the UNC School of Medicine, was nominated by President Barack Obama to be director of the National Institutes of Health.
American Board of Internal Medicine Elects Berkowitz to Board of Directors
Lee R. Berkowitz, MD, the Eunice Bernhard Distinguished Professor of Medicine and Associate Chair for Education in the Department of Medicine, has been elected to the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Board of Directors. ABIM sets the standards and certifies physicians practicing in internal medicine and its subspecialties who possess the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to provide high quality care.
Fuhrman joins 'Here's to Your Health'
This weekend, Dr. Joel Fuhrman joins the Department of Family Medicine's "Here's to Your Health" radio show to discuss treating osteoporosis with nutrition and exercise.
Bar Coded patient identification solution replaces “Blue Card”
UNC Hospitals is implementing a new patient identification solution on July 15 at 9 a.m. for patients admitted by Registration, the Emergency Department, Labor & Delivery, Psychiatry, and patients checked in for a procedure.
Changes to allergy documentation in CPOE and WebCIS beginning August 26
The current database providing allergy documentation and alerts in both CPOE and WebCIS is no longer being maintained by the database vendor. A switch will be made to a new system beginning the evening of August 26.

University changes to affect Transportation and Parking July 14 - 20
The University is preparing to launch ConnectCarolina, a new administrative system. The first phase of this implementation will take place on July 14, 2009. As a result, UNC Health Care’s Transportation and Parking Office will be unable to create new PIDs or Gate Access Cards from July 14 - 17.
ConnectCarolina begins implementation July 20
UNC is preparing to launch ConnectCarolina, a new integrated administrative system. The first phase of this implementation will take place on July 20, 2009 and involves a new portal where the online campus directory will be accessed.
