Bar Coded patient identification solution replaces “Blue Card”

UNC Hospitals is implementing a new patient identification solution on July 15 at 9 a.m. for patients admitted by Registration, the Emergency Department, Labor & Delivery, Psychiatry, and patients checked in for a procedure.

This solution includes arm bands, labels and forms containing a bar code that identifies the patient. Bar code technology enables operational efficiency, greater accuracy of information, provides traceable data, and establishes a framework for future enhancements to patient identification processes.
