UNC Health Care launches Commitment to Communities

Caring for the people of North Carolina is an integral part of the UNC Health Care mission. With that in mind, UNC Health Care External Affairs has developed the Commitment to Communities program to expand its outreach into the community both locally and statewide.

Commitment to Communities’ strategic focus is a two-pronged approach to health education. The first is to provide North Carolinians the information they need to maintain and improve their health. The second is to attract young people to professions in health care by educating them about the value and opportunities open to them through careers as physicians, nurses and allied health professionals.

To make it easy for employees to get involved, External Affairs has created Employee Ambassador Clubs. As an ambassador, employees will learn about a wide range of volunteer opportunities in their community and be able to tap into a network of people dedicated to making a difference.

Any UNC Health Care or UNC School of Medicine employee may become an ambassador. There is no obligation or minimum time commitments.  Employee Ambassador Clubs will initially be established in Chapel Hill-Carrboro and Hillsborough with plans to expand into the surrounding areas. Employees living outside these towns are eligible to join the Employee Ambassador At-Large Club.

The first meetings of the Employee Ambassador clubs will include lunch and be held in conference room #4 located on the ground floor of the N.C. Women’s Hospital on the following dates:

•    Chapel Hill-Carrboro ambassadors, noon to 1 p.m., Thursday, July 16.
•    Hillsborough ambassadors, noon to 1 p.m., Thursday, July 23.
•    At-large ambassadors, TBA

UNC Health Care’s employees have a long history of giving back to their communities. In an effort to show its support of employees who donate their time to their communities UNC Health Care has created the Employee Ambassador Recognition Program. Starting in July 2010, UNC Health Care will make a one-time donation up to $250 to any 501(c)3 non-profit organization to which our employees give 50 or more hours of their time. The money to fund this program comes from an existing sponsorship fund. The Commitment to Communities program allows our ambassadors to help determine how UNC Health Care uses these sponsorship dollars and is our way of thanking its employees for giving back to their communities.
