During the past few months, many of you have been working together to combine the Cardiology, Adult Cardiac Surgery, Vascular Surgery, and Interventional Radiology division into a single unified organization. After an extensive project managed in coordination with our marketing team, it has been decided that this entity will be called The UNC Center for Heart & Vascular Care. Operational improvements that will allow easier access into our facility together with the combination of services will foster collaboration, which, in turn, will result in improved care and a better experience for our patients.
In addition to the new unified clinical services department, we also have recently announced the establishment of the UNC McAllister Heart Institute. This new Institute has been established with a generous gift from Dr. Hugh McAllister, a UNC alumnus. The Institute will provide the infrastructure needed to unify and expand our innovative cardiovascular research and educational programs, whose major focus will be translating our research from the bench to the bedside.
The UNC Center for Heart & Vascular Care and the McAllister Heart Institute represent a continued commitment to excellence in cardiovascular medicine at UNC. The missions of these two organizations will remain carefully aligned and coordinated. As part of the launch of these programs to the community, we are planning formally to announce the McAllister Heart Institute and the Center for Heart & Vascular Care, followed by the launch of entirely new web sites for both the Institute and Center.
I hope you share my excitement about these changes as we look forward to seeing the research advances, growth, and improved patient satisfaction results for years to come. Thank you to everyone for your hard work in making these changes a reality.
