Beach Cafe Ribbon Cutting

Thursday, Sept. 17 marked the grand opening of The Beach Cafe on the first floor of the Brinkhous-Bullitt Building.

The Beach has been in service since Aug. 17, but representatives from Carolina Dining Services and the School of Medicine planning office gathered with hungry patrons Thursday morning for a ribbon cutting ceremony. The Chick-Fil-A cow and a giant Quiznos sub were also on-site for the celebration.

"We are ecstatic to be on this side of campus," said Bill Cunningham, director of Carolina Dining Services, at the ceremony. "I think all the unique products come together to make a great mix," he said. Kevin Fitzgerald, Executive Associate Dean for Finance and Administration, used giant Carolina blue scissors to cut the ribbon haning between the dining and restaurant space.

Prior to a $6.2 million renovation of Brinkhous-Bullitt that began in February 2008, The Beach was located on the second floor. The planning office said that they hope the move will encourage students to use the space as a meeting room even after the restuarants are closed.

The Beach is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner featuring Chick-fil-A, Quiznos, Greens and EspressOasis. Hours of operation are Monday – Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. EspressOasis is open Monday – Thursday, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and weekends, 6 a.m. to noon.
