CICU wins Beacon Award
The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) has received the Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses! Only 315 of the estimated 6,000 intensive care units in the United States have earned this award. Congrats to our team in the CICU!

Nov. 20 home football game - UNC vs N.C. State at noon
The final UNC home football game is Saturday, Nov. 20 at noon against N.C. State. Please plan appropriately as you travel to/from UNC Hospitals, as traffic will be heavy several hours before game time.
Men's home basketball game Nov. 23
UNC's next home basketball game is Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. against UNC Asheville. Employees with an S11 permit need to move their vehicles out of that lot and to the Dogwood Deck by 5:30 p.m.

UNC Hospitals’ Beacon Child and Family Program and the Family Violence Prevention Center of Orange County are pleased with the number of cell phones donated to benefit services for victims of family violence. You can continue to take your donated cell phones to the Women’s Health Information Center on the ground floor of the N.C. Women’s Hospital.

VIDEO: Commitment to Communities celebration
UNC Health Care held a reception recently to celebrate the first anniversary of the Commitment to Communities program. The event featured the presentation of keys from Habitat for Humanity to Felicia Weaver with the division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. UNC Health Care sponsored Felicia's home and filled all 300 of volunteer slots to help with the home's construction with employees their families and friends.

HSL Hosts Book Drive for Pediatric Cancer Patients
From Nov. 8 through Dec. 9, 2010, the Health Sciences Library, along with several other UNC departments and organizations, is once again sponsoring a book drive on behalf of the Book Fairy, an organization that donates children's books to the Pediatric Oncology Clinic at UNC Hospitals.
UNC Hospitals earns Magnet Recognition
On Nov. 17, the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) notified UNC Hospitals that it received full Magnet designation. Magnet designation recognizes the care our nurses provide and also honors our entire health care system for its excellence.
