Crane in place on Medical Drive Oct. 15 - 17

On Friday, Oct. 15, at 5 p.m., a portion of the end of North Medical Drive will be barricaded off for the arrival of a construction crane for the placement of structural steel on to the roof of the Patient Support Tower. This necessary work is being accomplished as part of UNC Hospitals’ 5 East Renovation project.

The staging activities for the crane and structural steel will begin Friday afternoon after 5 p.m. UNC Hospitals’ Police will rope off the area and vehicles parked at the back of OT/PT (construction contractor parking and emergency physician parking) will need to be moved. LeChase Construction employees will re-direct foot traffic around the staging and lifting activities at all times.

The actual lifting of structural steel will begin on Saturday, Oct. 16, at 7 a.m. and will continue through Sunday, Oct. 17, until all work is complete. The crane will depart sometime on Sunday afternoon and parking will be back to normal shortly thereafter. During this timeframe there will be construction activity/noise on North Medical Drive, on the roof of the Patient Support Tower, and the lower Old Hospital roof adjacent to 6 East. The LeChase Construction superintendent on site will be Greg Moyer (919) 201-9983. Please call with any further questions or concerns.
