'Late Night with Roy' likely to affect Friday traffic

Late Night with Roy 2010 will be held on Friday, Oct. 15 at the Dean E. Smith Center. The event will begin at 8 p.m. Please be aware that traffic to and from the hospitals and the School of Medicine may be heavy tomorrow evening.

Doors to the Smith Center will open at 6:30 p.m.

Here is some additional transportation information for "Late Night":

  • Tar Heel Express buses will run beginning 6 p.m. from the Friday Center park and ride lot for $5 round-trip (or $3 for a one-way ticket)
  • Chapel Hill Transit is expecting delays for some of their routes on Friday evening, and will be offering tripper buses to cover if delays should arise. The trippers will serve all 3 lots on 54. Here are the tripper routes and times:

    FCX: 7:10, 7:25, 7:40
    S: 7:06, 7:25
    HU: 7:04, 7:44

  • No parking for Late Night will be available in the immediate Smith Center vicinity before 5 p.m.
  • The Ramshead and Craige parking decks will open for Late Night parking beginning at 4:30 p.m.
  • Parking will become available at 5 p.m. in the Manning and Bowles parking lots and the Jackson Deck.
  • All parking will cost $10 per automobile


For S11 permit holders:

5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., a portion of the Bowles Lot and several spaces on the top tier of the Manning Lot will be blocked and reserved for event operations. No overcrowding is anticipated, however.

S11 permit holders parking in the Williamson Lot and along Williamson Drive are asked to relocate from this area beginning 5:30 p.m.  From 5:30 p.m. until approximately 11:30 p.m., the Williamson Lot and Williamson Drive will be used for disability patrons attending a Smith Center event.  

S11 permit holders parked in the Bowles Lot or Manning Lot in the non-reserved sections will not need to vacate the lots. Parking operations will be worked around the S11 permit holders remaining in the non-reserved sections.
