Eric Juengst, Ph.D., will become Director of the UNC Center for Biomedical Ethics and Professor of Social Medicine on Sept. 1, 2010.

Dear Colleagues:

We are quite pleased to announce the appointment of Eric Juengst, Ph.D. as Director of the UNC Center for Biomedical Ethics and Professor of Social Medicine, effective September 1, 2010.

Dr. Juengst will be joining us from Case Western Reserve University, where he currently serves as Professor of Bioethics and Director of the Center for Genetic Research Ethics and Law, an NIH-funded “Center of Excellence in Ethics Research.”  He received his B.S. in Biology from the University of the South and a Masters degree in Ethics and a Ph.D. in Philosophy of Medicine from Georgetown University.  In addition to Case Western, Dr. Juengst has held faculty positions at UCSF and the Penn State College of Medicine, and, from 1990-1994, he was the first director of the Ethical, Legal and Social Implications Program at the National Human Genome Research Institute of NIH.  We expect the Center for Biomedical Ethics to flourish under Eric’s leadership.

We look forward to the arrival of this new center director to our community.  Please join us in welcoming Eric Juengst to UNC.

Sincerely,
