Hoffmann receives SHEA Advanced Practice Infection Preventionist Award

Karen K. Hoffmann, RN, MS, CIC, associate director of the North Carolina Statewide Program for Infection Control and Epidemiology in the Division of Infectious Diseases, received the award from the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, Inc. (SHEA).

Hoffman received the award at the Fifth Decennial International Conference on Healthcare-Associated Infections in Atlanta in March. The SHEA Advanced Practice Infection Preventionist (IP) Award is intended to recognize professional accomplishments and contributions to the science of infection prevention and control/ healthcare epidemiology by an experienced professional in the field.

Ms. Hoffmann directs courses in infection control for hospitals, long-term care facilities and ambulatory settings and provides infection control consultation and outbreak investigation to North Carolina healthcare facilities.
