UNC Health Care’s impact on North Carolina

Our mission is to serve and care for the people of North Carolina. We do that every day in our hospitals, clinics and exam rooms across North Carolina. A new interactive map at www.unchealthcare.org provides information about the number of patients we serve and the amount of uncompensated care we provide.

The data in this new interactive map is also available for all 100 counties by hovering over a particular county on the map.

The map also shows how each county fits into the N.C. Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) Program, which partners with health care providers across the state to emphasize primary care and prevention among North Carolina’s underserved communities and populations.

Also, the School of Medicine was recently nationally recognized for its effort to fulfill its mission to improve the health of all the people of North Carolina when it was ranked as the seventh best school in the country for rural medicine as a part of U.S. News and World Report’s Best Medical Schools rankings.
