Mackman to give the Jeffrey M. Hoeg Lecture at ATVB Spring Meeting
Nigel Mackman, PhD, FAHA, is the John Parker Distinguished Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology/Oncology. He is also Associate Director of the UNC McAllister Heart Institute. He will give the honorary lecture at the 2011 Spring Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology meeting in April.
VIDEO: Jessica Breland's Story
Jessica Breland is at the top of her game. She is now the 16th Carolina Women's Basketball player in school history to be selected for the WNBA draft, which took place this year on Monday, April 11. Breland was the 13th pick overall, and next year she'll be playing for the New York Liberty. But Breland doesn't take anything for granted. She had to sit out the 2009 - 2010 season while undergoing treatment for Hodgkin’s lymphoma at UNC.
State Budget Update - NC House of Representatives Proposed Budget
The North Carolina House of Representatives released their proposed budget April 12. We expected to see budget cuts for all state agencies, and in their proposal, House members suggest eliminating the entire $44 million appropriation to UNC Hospitals. This is money we use every year to offset the cost of providing uncompensated care, which this year will total more than $300 million.
Wang receives National Academy of Sciences grant to develop cancer nanotechnology
Andrew Wang, MD, assistant professor of radiation oncology, has been awarded a $100,000 one-year grant from the National Academies Keck Futures Initiative (NAKFI), a program of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the Institute of Medicine with support from the W.M. Keck Foundation.
Donald P. Frush, MD, will present the 14th James H. Scatliff Lecture
The Department of Radiology hosts this annual lecture. Dr. Frush will discuss “CT, Radiation and Children: Assessing Our Journey through Awareness, Accountability, and Action.”
