Brennwald named interim chair of Department of Cell and Developmental Biology

Patrick J. Brennwald, PhD, Professor of Cell and Developmental Biology, was appointed interim chair Dec. 1.

Dr. Brennwald, who joined the Department in 2001, succeeds Dr. Vytas Bankaitis who served as Chair from 2001 to 2011.

Dr. Brennwald’s research is focused on the mechanism by which eukaryotic cells are polarized and the role of vesicle transport plays in the determination and regulation of cell polarity and tumorigenesis.

In addition to his research, Dr. Brennwald has served as director of the IBMS and co-director of the BBSP Graduate Programs, and currently serves as associate director of BBSP.  He received a BA from Carleton College, a PhD from the University of Illinois and was a postdoctoral fellow at Yale University School of Medicine.
