The changes include new murals in the hallways and a dedicated "kiss-and-go" spot for parents before their children are wheeled into the operating room. The operating rooms have ceiling murals and TVs so that the kids are distracted while they are put to sleep.

The six-bed pediatric surgery unit consists of nine pediatric anesthesiologists, five general surgeons and other specialists, all trained to work with children. UNC Hospitals has the largest operating room space in the state devoted to children’s surgery with a dedicated pediatric anesthesiology team.  This team leads the state’s first and only pediatric pain management program.
