UNC Student National Medical Association honored at national conference

The UNC Chapter won "Chapter of Year" for Southeast region. Read more for other ways UNC was honored at the Annual Medical Education Conference, which is sponsored by the Student National Medical Association (SNMA).

Other Honors:
Larry Keith was selected to be inducted into the 2011 Hall of Heroes of SNMA. He will officially be recognized at AMEC 2012 in Atlanta. Keith, who died last February, was assistant dean of admissions, associate director of Office of Educational Development and director of special programs.

Three UNC students were elected to be Region IV representatives: Corrie Burke, Regional Political Advocacy Liaison; Jennifer Christie, Regional Treasurer; and Senyene Hunter, Regional Community Service Liaison.

Awards:
Senyene Hunter was selected as the Wilbur C. Jordan Research Award recipient. Moneika Owens won the Dr. David E. Satcher Research Fellowship.

The SNMA is the nation's oldest and largest student organization focused on the needs and concerns of medical students of color. Membership includes more than 8,000 medical students, pre-medical students, residents and physicians.
