What are platelets?

Platelets are a special component of the blood that collect at the site of injury to prevent life-threatening bleeding. Many cancer patients receiving chemotherapy or radiation treatments are not able to produce enough platelets.

How can you help?

Donate your platelets! It’s as easy as giving blood, however, a modern cell-separating machine safely removes only the platelets. Your visit may last up to two hours. Relax with a movie from our extensive collection of new releases or bring a good book. Your platelets can save a life today.

The Blood Donation Center is located on the third floor of the Cancer Hospital. Please visit unchplateletdonation.genbook.com to schedule an appointment, or call (919) 966-23790 to reserve a date and time.
