National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine requests faculty speakers

The National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine is searching for speakers for several of their events. Each speaker will present to one group of scholars for a total of 1 hour, 40 minutes addressing the scholars and 20 minutes at the end for questions.

Since 1993, the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine (NYLF/Med) has been the nation's foremost program in pre-medical education for high school students. Held in 10 cities across the United States, the 10-day program familiarizes students with professionals from some of the nation’s top medical centers and faculty from renowned institutions of learning. NYLF/Med utilizes hands-on, interactive curriculum and close cooperation with prestigious and technologically-advanced hospitals, research facilities and medical schools to challenge students to learn about a broad range of topics including educational requirements, career options, clinical practice and complex ethical and legal issues facing the medical profession today.

Healthcare in the 21st Century

This seminar provides scholars with the opportunity to learn about new and different paths available to them in the field of medicine.  The dates and times for this summer’s events are as follows:

  • Forum I:         Monday, June 11, 2012 at 7 - 8 p.m.
  • Forum II:       Monday, June 25, 2012 at 7 - 8 p.m.

Each evening will open with a brief reception beginning at 6:30 p.m. Each speaker will present to one group of students for a total of 1 hour, 40 minutes addressing the students and 20 minutes at the end for questions.

  • Pediatrics (Booked for Forum II: Assistant Professor at UNC, General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine)

Life as a Resident: An Insider’s Perspective

This seminar provides scholars with the opportunity to learn about the process of becoming a medical professional.  The dates and times of this summer’s events are as follows:

●      Forum I:         Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 7:30-8:30 p.m.

●      Forum II:       Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 7:30-8:30 p.m.

Each evening will open with a brief reception at 7 p.m. Each speaker will present to one group of students for a total of 1 hour, 40 minutes addressing the students and 20 minutes at the end for questions.

What’s Your Specialty?

This seminar provides scholars with the opportunity to learn about a specialty they are interested in.  Scholars select one seminar to attend.  The following are dates and times for this summer’s events:

●      Forum II:       Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Each evening will open with a brief reception at 6 p.m. Each speaker will present to one group of students for a total of 1 hour, 40 minutes addressing the students and 20 minutes at the end for questions.
