During her remarks, she reflected on her own Match Day and let students know that this was a day that would remember throughout their career.

Mandy Cohen, MD, MPH, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, joined UNC School of Medicine’s class of 2024 to celebrate Match Day.

Cohen previously served as Secretary of the NC Department of Health and Human Services and in that role was instrumental in North Carolina’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. During her remarks, she reflected on her own Match Day and let students know that this was a day that would remember throughout their career.

She also expressed gratitude to the assembled students for choosing a life of service in the medical field, where the need for providers is only growing – especially in rural areas.

Before celebrating with students, Cohen toured Roper Hall with Wesley Burks, MD, Dean of the UNC School of Medicine and CEO of UNC Health, and Cristy Page, MD, MPH, Executive Dean of the UNC School of Medicine and Chief Academic Officer. They visited facilities throughout the building including the simulation lab and active learning theater.

Thank you, Dr. Cohen for your inspiring remarks and for helping us to celebrate with our fourth-year students as they take the next step in their careers.
