Background: Approximately 9% of U.S. adults experience fecal incontinence, and this has a devastating impact on quality of life for both patients and their families. Effective treatments are available but ¾ of patients do not receive these treatments because few health care providers screen for bowel control problems and patients are reluctant to talk about it.
