This inspirational film, premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and viewed by more than one million people, exposes the influence of mainstream media in facilitating beliefs about women that contribute to their under-representation in positions of power and continue to promote body dissatisfaction in women of all ages. Prominent politicians, journalists, entertainers, activists, and academics are interviewed throughout the film, such as Condoleezza Rice, Nancy Pelosi, Rosario Dawson, and Gloria Steinem.
Following the screening, audience members will enjoy lively discussion (and q/a) with a panel of female academics and activists including Dr. Cynthia Bulik, Distinguished Professor Eating Disorders and author of The Woman in the Mirror: How to Stop Confusing What You Look Like With Who You Are, Ms. Stephanie Crayton, Media Relations Manager for UNC Health Care with a decade of broadcast experience, and other surprise panelists. This event is open to all students, faculty, and community members.
