Rogue Wireless Access Points Not Allowed on UNC Network

ITS has begun to actively seek out rogue consumer devices such as Linksys, D-Link, Belkin, Apple AirPort, etc. and will block them from the network when detected.

The SOM has been advised by ITS Networking that a number of “rogue” wireless access points have been detected on the School of Medicine network. For security and stability reasons, campus network policy only allows enterprise wireless access points to be attached to the University network that have been configured and  installed by OIS or ITS networking teams. Enterprise devices can be centrally monitored and controlled and can be easily isolated if there are issues affecting the network. ITS has begun to actively seek out rogue consumer devices such as Linksys, D-Link, Belkin, Apple AirPort, etc. and will block them from the network when detected.
