New patents issued to faculty members

Don A. Gabriel, MD, PhD, Michael F. Goy, PhD, Joseph M. DeSimone, PhD, were issued patents in May 2012. Read on for details.

Don A. Gabriel, MD, PhD, professor of medicine, hematology/oncology division, member of McAllister Heart Institute and UNC Lineberger Comprehensive cancer Center.  U.S. Patent No. 8,163,151 for “Assays for detection of Von Willebrand Factor (vWF) Multimers and for degradation of vWF agents such as Adamts 13 and Related Methods.”

Michael F. Goy, PhD, professor of cell and molecular physiology; U.S. Patent No. 8,173,596 for  “Prouroguanylin and synthetic analogs of proteolytic cleavage products derived from IT as therapeutic and diagnostic agents for diseases involving salt and/or fluid homeostasis”

Joseph M. DeSimone, PhD, et al, the  Chancellor’s Eminent Professor of Chemistry,  faculty member UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and department of pharmacology,  European Patent 1694731 for “Photocurable Perfluoropolyethers for Use as Novel Materials in Microfluidic Devices.”

Joseph M. DeSimone, PhD, et al,  Mexican Patent 295862, for “The Nanoparticle Fabrication Methods, Systems and Materials.”
