SOM Strategic Plan finalized

Please read this letter from Drs. Roper and Runge regarding the new strategic plan, effective March 1.

Dear Colleagues:

We are pleased to tell you that the School of Medicine Strategic Plan has been finalized. This document will order our priorities and guide our decision making for the next five years.

I would like to thank everyone who took the time to review the plan and make comments. We made substantial revisions to the document based on feedback from faculty members. We received many comments by e-mail and during the six feedback session held to obtain faculty input. Additionally, several groups – the basic science chairs, the clinical chairs and a number of smaller faculty groups – provided coordinated comments.

Through the process, we identified key areas for integration with the health care system, including innovation, informatics, and translational research. In addition, based on broad feedback several areas, including the AHEC Program and the Department of Allied Sciences will be developing detailed strategic plans to integrate with the School of Medicine Strategic Plan.

There remains much to be done as we now enter the implementation phase of our strategic planning process. We thank you all for your participation and input to this point and going forward as we continue this very important planning process. for the School of Medicine.

Sincerely,

Marschall S. Runge, MD, PhD
Executive Dean, UNC School of Medicine

William L. Roper, MD, MPH
