The Way of a Teacher

This is the tale of a Tar Heel, his roots, his life, and his legacy. It is also a story of the enduring power of mentoring through the lives of Drs. William Osler and William MacNider. This short film was written, produced and narrated by H. Michael Jones, MD, Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, is now available online.

Dr. MacNider was the Professor and Chair of the Department of Pharmacology, as well as the University's first member of the National Academy of Sciences. He served as dean of UNC School of Medicine from 1937-40, and was a champion of the two-year program medical program. The four-year School of Medicine was founded in 1952.
