STEMI is a severe heart attack caused by a prolonged period of blocked blood supply that affects a large area of the heart. We are extremely proud of the UNC team of Cardiologists, Emergency Department physicians, Cardiac Catheterization Lab staff, Emergency Department staff, Coronary Intensive Care Unit nurses, EKG staff, Performance Improvement staff, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel who earned this award through teamwork and their dedication to saving lives.
