Academy of Educators presents Teaching and Thinking Workshop
All UNC faculty, residents and medical students are invited to the Academy of Educators Visiting Professor Series Workshop. The workshop presenter will be Dr. Hannah Landecker, who will discuss how social forces shape biosciences (and vice versa) and what this means for doctors who will see bioscience knowledge revised and overturned throughout their careers.
CGIBD Research Seminar-Visiting Professor
Mark Silverberg, MD, PhD, Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto, will present, "Using the Pelvic Pouch as a Model to Study IBD," at the first CGIBD Research Seminar of the fall 2013 semester. Everyone is welcome to attend.

UNC researchers receive $8.2-million grant to study the role of coagulation in pathology of sickle cell disease
A multi-disciplinary team of basic and clinical scientists from the Division of Hematology/Oncology in the Department of Medicine has received a five-year, $8.2-million grant from the NIH-NHLBI to study the role of coagulation in the pathology of sickle cell disease. Kenneth Ataga, MD, Nigel Key, MB, ChB, Nigel Mackman, PhD, and Rafal Pawlinski, PhD, will serve as co-PIs on the grant.
