MSEC elections results
Elections were held in May 2013 for three at-large positions on the Medical Staff Executive Committee. Drs. Anthony Charles, Nancy Chescheir, and Carl Seashore were elected to 2-year terms by the clinical faculty members.
Dr. Claire Wilcox: 29 Years as Radiology Director of Medical Student Education
Effective July 1, 2013, Department of Radiology Associate Professor Dr. Claire Wilcox will step down after 29 years of service as the Department's Director of Medical Student Education, a role she has served in since 1984. Wilcox will continue working as clinical faculty in the Department’s Cardiothoracic Imaging division.

Schoenfeld wins Presidential Award from the Association of Public Health Laboratories
On June 4, 2013, the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) held its Annual Meeting & Seventh Government Environmental Laboratory Conference in Raleigh, N.C. This year’s Presidential Award was given to Ernie Schoenfeld, DrPH, Lecturer in the Public Health Leadership Program at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and Senior Advisor to William L. Roper, MD, MPH, Dean of the UNC School of Medicine and CEO of the UNC Health Care System.
UNC Eye receives prestigious Research to Prevent Blindness unrestricted grant
Research to Prevent Blindness (RPB) has awarded a grant of $110,000 to UNC Eye Care Center to support research into the causes, treatment, and prevention of blinding diseases.
New PET/MR service for clinical patients at UNC Hospitals
This new technology is only available in a handful of academic medical centers in the country, and UNC will be one of the first to take advantage of it in a true clinical setting. PET/MR offers an extremely unique way to visualize tumors and may be the closest answer to assessing tumor heterogeneity currently available.
Memorial Service for Dr. Keith Amos - June 29
UNC will host a celebration of Dr. Amos' life on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Genome Sciences Building on Bell Tower Rd.
Important transitions at the Medical Foundation of North Carolina, Inc.
David Anderson has decided to step down as President of the Medical Foundation on June 30. Debbie Dibbert, Director of Development and External Relations for Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, will assume the position of Interim President during this transition. The Medical Foundation secures financial and volunteer resources for the UNC School of Medicine and UNC Health Care to provide a healthier future through medical education, research and patient care.
