Alan D. Stiles, MD, served as chair of the UNC Department of Pediatrics from 2000 until 2011. Throughout his career, he has been a major advocate for disadvantaged and chronically ill children in North Carolina. His efforts with the Medicaid Program, the North Carolina Pediatric Society, and other medical constituencies have focused resources and governmental priorities on improving both the quality and accessibility of care for these children.

The Alan D. Stiles, MD, Visiting Professorship was established to honor Alan’s vision, leadership, and accomplishments, bringing national leaders in pediatric advocacy and child health to Chapel Hill to inform and inspire residents and faculty to become more effective advocates in their own careers.
