The LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) Health and Aging Program of the Human Rights Campaign is the largest LGBT organization in the U.S. Prior to Snowdon's work with the Health and Aging Campaign she founded and led the Center for LGBT Health and Equity at the University of California at San Francisco for 14 years, the nation's only LGBT office in a health education or health care setting. She has provided LGBT health training and consulting for hundreds of health professional schools, hospitals and other health organizations throughout the country.
Shane Snowdon will examine:
- What every health professional needs to know about LGBT patients
- What concerns LGBT patients and families bring into healthcare
- What experiences LGBT patients have in healthcare
Shane Snowdon has designed and convened numerous LGBT health meetings, including the annual LGBTQI Health Forum for Health Professional Students and the National Summit on LGBT Concerns in Medical Education for faculty and administrators. During this workshop, Shane will provided an overview of these key topics, along with several suggestions for improving healthcare for LGBT Americans.
